Melvin Johnson

As a solo artist, Melvin Johnson writes, records and performs music that draws from contemporary jazz, gospel, R&B and the long tradition of the great American songbook — filtered through a producer's ear and a composer's eye for narrative.

His releases Little Red Wagon and Delayed Flights have been spun on 90.9 KTSU and submitted to the NPR Tiny Desk competition, and his upcoming album The Synthetic Dream marks his most ambitious project to date.

Whether on a Steinway in a concert hall or behind the boards in the studio, Melvin's solo work is the through-line of everything The Collective stands for.
